Nassau Bay, a small town in southeastern Harris County, TX, is on Nassau Lake across Farm Road 528 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center.

The population has been fluctuating throughout its existence, but it is estimated that approximately four hundred people lived in this town in 1950. Families first moved into the new development in 1964, and the community incorporated in 1970.

The Ernest W. Roe Company developed the community from the former Spirit of 1776 Ranch of Col. Raymond Pearson. Construction on the 570-acre community began in 1962 under architect Thompson McCleary of Caudill, Rowlett, and Scott. 

Nassau Bay Development Associates, representing six Houston business people, built several stores, 15 office buildings, 400 apartments, and 1,000 homes. Marinas, parks, a private club, a hotel, a hospital, a bank, and a shopping center followed.

Nassau Bay was initially established to accommodate the Johnson Space Center (JSC) and provide a community for astronauts, space professionals, and their families. Today, more than 60 Nassau Bay residents have visited space, and a few have even walked on the moon.
