History of Nassau Bay, TX

The Ernest W. Roe Company developed the community from the former Spirit of 1776 Ranch of Col. Raymond Pearson. Construction on the 570-acre community began in 1962 under architect Thompson McCleary of Caudill, Rowlett, and Scott. 

Nassau Bay Development Associates, representing six Houston business people, built several stores, 15 office buildings, 400 apartments, and 1,000 homes. Marinas, parks, a private club, a hotel, a hospital, a bank, and a shopping center followed.

Nassau Bay was initially established to accommodate the Johnson Space Center (JSC) and provide a community for astronauts, space professionals, and their families. Today, more than 60 Nassau Bay residents have visited space, and a few have even walked on the moon.

Johnson Space Center

One of the most important attractions in Nassau Bay, Texas, is the Johnson Space Center. People of all ages and backgrounds can visit this place. It has some excellent exhibits, an astronaut training simulator, and many things for children to do. 

Nassau Bay 

Located across the street from Johnson Space Center and Space Center Houston, Nassau Bay has it all: fun, sun, and water. The Clear Lake recreation area is the third-largest pleasure boat basin in the United States.

Houston Airshow

The annual Wings over Houston Airshow at nearby Ellington International Airport gives families an up-close view of military and civilian aircraft as well as demonstrations in the air and on the ground. 

Ballunar Liftoff Festival

Ballunar Liftoff Festival held on JSC’s grounds, hosts more than 100 hot air balloons and skydiving exhibitions, para-gliders, and hang-gliders, all set in a carnival atmosphere with food, crafts, midway, and live musical entertainment.
