Angleton, Texas
Located within the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area, Angleton is the county seat of Brazoria County. It is located at the intersection of three major transport hubs – State Highway 288, State Highway 35, and the Union Pacific Railroad.
The city is known to be home to several professional football players, including Emmitt Thomas of the Kansas City Chiefs, Quentin Jammer of the San Diego Chargers, Ahmard Hall of the Tennessee Titans, and more.
Founded in 1890, the city was named for the wife of the Velasco Terminal Railway’s general manager. It was chosen to be the seat of Brazoria County in 1896 and was re-chosen as the county seat in 1913.
The town was incorporated in 1912. The Brazoria County Courthouse, which is located in Angleton, was built in 1897. It was initially an agricultural trade center, devoted mainly to cotton, corn, truck farming, and cattle, as well as rice and soybeans.
Angleton is home to nine parks and is also served by the Angleton Post Office. It is also home to MSR Houston, a road course and karting facility.
The city is also close to several other things to do. These include a scuba diving facility, the beaches of the Gulf Coast, and the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, a 44,000-acre area that boasts over 300 species of birds. The Refuge is also home to several hiking and driving trails and is ideal for both birdwatchers and photographers.
The city is home to nearly 20,000 citizens and consists of over 7000 homes. It is a family-oriented city and boasts four churches.
There are also several schools in and around Angleton, and the city is home to several public schools and one private school, the Angleton Christian School. Schools in the city include elementary, junior high, and high schools, as well as several alternative instructional schools.
Angleton is home to the annual Brazoria County Fair, the largest country fair in Texas. Held in October each year, it attracts over 200 vendors. The city is also served by the Angleton Library and is home to the Brazoria County Historical Museum.
The many activities and amenities make the city a comfortable location for families to live in. The numerous schools and parks make it a great place to raise children in, and its proximity to other areas and attractions mean that there is always something for everyone to enjoy.
