History of Afton Oaks, Texas

The area that is now Afton Oaks was once ranching and farming land owned by the O’Meara and Stahlman families. The location was first developed in the 1950s, and construction was completed in stages between 1951 and 1959.

Newer homes were constructed in the 1980s and 2000s. Today, the area is home to a little over 525 homes.

Living in Afton Oaks, Texas

The Afton Oaks Civic Club was established while the area was being developed in 1955. It is responsible for enforcing deed restrictions and maintaining common areas in the neighborhood to preserve the Afton Oaks atmosphere.

Afton Oaks was also chosen for a ‘Neighborhoods to Standard’ program, a four-year renovation program that helps neighborhoods install new and improved streets, curbs, and storm sewers.

Afton Oaks is home to several popular Houston restaurants, making it a popular dining location for residents. There are also a lot of activities available that residents can take advantage of.

The neighborhood is located very close to Memorial Park, which is the largest urban park in Houston. Residents can take advantage of the park’s various facilities, including a public golf course, several sports fields, a swimming pool, jogging and biking trails, and more.

Afton Oaks is also barely minutes away from retail and entertainment hotspots, including the Galleria, Rice Village, River Oaks Shopping Center, and more. There are more than 1000 commercial establishments within a mile radius of the neighborhood, including nightlife, outdoor entertainment, and restaurants.
